Early on Tuesday, May 28, 2024, rain and destructive winds moved through Duncanville, Texas. Many residents emerged from their homes without electricity to find fallen trees and branches. Even Duncanville City Hall was not immune to power outages that hit the city. However, during and after the storm, city staff jumped into action, responding to calls and clearing streets.
Duncanville's Streets and Parks Recreation crews responded to 42 calls for trees or limbs down. They, with the help of Oncor and Republic Services, assisted residents and businesses and worked to clear the rights-of-way throughout the city. All Duncanville streets are now clear for emergency vehicles and residential transportation.
City staff has been communicating with Republic Services regarding their plans for brush and bulk pickup in the aftermath of this most recent storm. Republic recommends that all large brush piles be curbside at the front of the house, with no cars, fire hydrants, or trees blocking access from the street. All debris should be bundled in sizes no greater than ten cubic yards.
Republic Services will utilize two brush trucks for residential brush and bulk pickup. One truck will begin north of Wheatland Road in the Redbird Park area (see map: section 1). The second truck will work south of Wheatland to complete the pickup started before the storm (see map: sections 9 and 10).
As a result of the storm, many in Duncanville and throughout the Metroplex suffered power outages. As of this writing, several remain without power. Oncor has reported that its teams will continue to work 16-hour shifts around the clock. Oncor's current estimate for substantial power restoration will be complete by Friday evening, weather permitting. Harder-hit areas are expected to be restored on Saturday.

They can serve as cooling centers for anyone looking to escape the heat. Duncanville Recreation Center fees will be waived for those looking to break from high temperatures or recharge their mobile device.

The Duncanville Splash Pad at Armstrong Park (100 James Collins Blvd, Duncanville, TX 75116) is a great way to break the heat. Open every day from 9:00 AM to sunset, the approximately 2,800 square foot Splash Pad recirculates 410 gallons of treated water per minute, providing kids with a fun and cooling diversion. Upon arriving during regular operating hours and discovering the water is off, press one of the two red activators at the pad's East side to start the water.
