Project Management Updates

• The Phase I Environmental Site Assessment (ESA) for the 200 W. Center St. acquisition has been scheduled for next week.
  
• The Energov Implementation is on track to launch in the Fall. This implementation will include Tyler Payments and Cashiering and updated GIS maps.

Information Technology Updates

• The IT team continues to partner with third-party agencies to reconfigure network applications and restore access – critical applications such as Munis (ESS, CSS, & Energov) and MCRS have been restored.
  
• The Interim IT Director, Portia Hogg, is working to process outstanding IT invoices.

Employee Advisory Team

Employee Advisory Team (EAT) lead Sofine Lewis hosted a ‘Chat and Chew (on the go). She met with employees to thank them for their hard work and shared a Chick-fil-A treat! A special thanks to Ms. Anna Kidd, Executive Director of Development, Chick-fil-A, for donating tasty snacks to Duncanville employees.

The Fire Department responded to 152 calls for service in the past seven days, which included:

• 110 EMS calls
  
• 16 Motor Vehicle Accidents
  
• 1 Building fire in Duncanville and 1 in DeSoto

There was a fantastic turnout for the Grand Opening of the Fire Station, which was held on Friday, May 3. The Fire Department would like to recognize the 2024 City Council, 2018 City Council, and 2018 Bond Committee Members for their hard work to establish this facility. Thank you to Lacey Freeman and Gail Sliger for organizing the event

The Police Department welcomes the public to access www.crimemapping.com for resources; citizens can also sign up for crime alerts within their location's radius.

• Officer Arias attended Career Day at Fairmeadows Elementary; the Police Department looks forward to welcoming new recruits in 2024! 
  
• The Police Department successfully hosted the annual Drug Take Back event, a testament to our commitment to public safety and community health. Three hundred prescription pills were collected and delivered to the Drug Enforcement Agency for destruction.
  This week, the Police Department’s Citizens on Patrol volunteers conducted Burglary of Motor Vehicle (BMV) report cards at Costco. 

Accounting & Reporting – Week of May 2 – May 8: 

• Electronic Funds Transfer Payments: 50 invoices were processed, totaling $370,818.30.

Parks

• Crews completed the final maintenance of Fire Station 1.
  
• Crews expanded irrigation systems at City Hall to resolve sidewalk erosion challenges.
  
• Hosted games and tournaments at Alexander and Harrington Parks.
  
• Crews assisted with the Texas Parks and Wildlife restock at Lakeside Park.
  
• Maintenance has begun to the flower beds and vegetation at the Recreation Center and Library.
  
• Crews have begun the signage audit at parks and green spaces.
  
• Tree maintenance continues at parks.
  
• Crews prepared for summer maintenance of athletic fields.
  
• Crews conducted vandalism repairs at parks. 

Duncanville Fieldhouse

The 2024 B.O.S.S. Summer Camp registration begins on April 15.

Activities include field trips, dance, cooking, football, basketball, volleyball, gym games, table games, cheer, arts and crafts, and tumbling.

Recreation Center

National Day of Prayer Recap—The National Day of Prayer event was a huge success! Plenty of prayers were sent out across the City to staff, police, fire, and EMS. Likewise, lots of hymnals, gospel, and worship music filled the gym. Both church organizations and participants were extremely grateful and hopeful for next year’s event. 

Movies in the Park: Top Gun Maverick – Saturday, May 11, 2024 | 8:30 PM
Join us on Saturday, May 11, at the Poe-Hobden Amphitheater at Armstrong Park for a Movie in the Park feat. Top Gun. Admission is FREE. The movie begins at sundown, at approximately 8:30 PM. Don’t forget to bring your blanket or lawn chair.

DUNCANVILLE PUBLIC LIBRARY

• This week, The Library staff attended the Merrifield Elementary School Career Day event and spoke with students about the wonders of working at the Library. 
  
• The Library celebrated its annual Free Comic Book Day event with an afternoon of crafts, a cosplay contest, photo ops, comics, and Jedi training. More than 250 happy participants gathered for festivities. Kona Ice was also on-site to serve sweet treats. A special thank you to the staff and volunteers who assisted with making this a successful event.
  
• In 2024, The Library’s ‘Little Free Pantry’ received more than four thousand donations.
  
• Between April 23 and May 3, 263 book transfers were conducted between the best Southwest Libraries.

PUBLIC WORKS

Water Field Supervisor Michael Wright received his 20-year recognition.
 
The “Duncanville Senior Employee” trophy is back in Public Works! This trophy has been passed down from one senior employee to the next for at least 20 years. With the recent retirement of Fire Chief Sam Rohde and Battalion Chief Robert Gideon, our Wastewater Field Supervisor, Ryan Shelley, is now Duncanville’s most senior employee with 31 years of service.

Street Division

• Crews removed fallen trees from the right-of-way on Hill City Dr., Golden Meadow Ln., Cedar Hill Rd., and Jungle Dr.
  
• Eight drainage utility locates were marked at various locations around the City.
  
• An Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) concrete sidewalk ramp was poured on San Juan Dr.
  
• Crews cleaned thirteen Santa Fe Trl., E. Cherry St., and Briar Hill Cir headwalls.
  
• Seventeen potholes were repaired on E. Mona Ave. and Fain St.
  
• Crews poured concrete for five utility cuts on Crosspointe St., Coventry Ln., Ridge Rock Ln., Green Hills Rd., and Softwood Dr.
  
• Two asphalt utility cuts were repaired on Middale Rd. and Ridge Rock Ln.
  
• Crews provided traffic control devices for the Cinco De Mayo festival, 1-5K Walk event, and a Lodema Ln. Block party.

Capital Improvement Program (CIP) Construction

Danieldale Rd. Reconstruction Project

• The project is nearing completion with four landscaping items remaining. City staff is working with the contractor, Pavecon, to complete them. 

Ten Mile Creek Embankment and Drainage Improvements

• The recent storm system has slowed project production.
  
• Stoic Construction has backfilled the storm drain boxes and pipe at Site 4. The compaction test has passed.
  
• The concrete beam has been poured at site 3A.

Wren Ave. and Oriole Blvd. Water Main Replacement I-20 Aerial Crossing 

• Pressure testing of the project’s north side was completed and passed. Crews continue collecting bacteriological samples.

Softwood Dr. Sanitary Sewer Aerial Crossing Repair

• Crews have completed the installation of two manholes on Softwood Dr.

Other Construction

• Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) I-20 Construction Cockrell Hill Rd. to Hampton Rd. TxDOT is constructing new service roads and ramps from Cockrell Hill Rd. in Duncanville to Hampton Rd. in Dallas, including new bridges across US-67. This project also includes construction by TXDOT of a Texas U-Turn at US 67 and Cockrell Hill Rd. on the southwest side of the bridge, which is projected to be completed by Fall 2024, barring any unforeseen conditions. The entire project has an estimated completion date of September 2025.

• A total of 1,971 single-family rental properties have been registered to date, with zero new properties registered since the last update. Ten inspections have been completed since the previous update; seven passed, three failed, and zero were canceled. The primary reason for the failed inspections was the absence of a Grounded/Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI) protection and missing carbon monoxide and smoke detectors.
  
• Since the Single-Family Rental Registration Program inspections in May 2024, 161 Certificates of Occupancy have been re-issued.
  
• This week, 100 Building inspections and 13 Health Inspections were conducted. The total amount of fees collected was $25,752.93.
  
• This week, 63 permits were issued.
