CITY ADMINISTRATION

Every year in April, National Safe Digging Month is an opportunity to remind homeowners, contractors, and professional excavators to keep communities safe by calling 811 before any digging project.

DUNCANVILLE FIRE DEPARTMENT
  • Lauren Sanchez conducted budget presentations for multiple City Managers and presented the Hazard Mitigation Plan updates to the Duncanville and Desoto city departments. Ms. Sanchez also attended a two-day course on training identification class at the Council of Governments and led an active shooter exercise planning meeting. Ms. Sanchez and Raqheal Payne held an Emergency Preparedness training for the public at the Duncanville Senior Center.

  • On-duty crews continue the move-in process at the new fire station. They are getting to the details of arranging items to assist with the station's flow and preparing for the Grand Opening on May 3. They are also inspecting the old station and identifying no longer needed items.
  • Battalion Chief Rob Hancock, Captain Reed Churman, and Engineer Robert Shaw are attending the Fire Department Instructors Conference (FDIC). This is the largest fire service conference in the nation and provides high-level training classes and new concepts in firefighting and emergency medical services.

DUNCANVILLE POLICE DEPARTMENT

The Duncanville Police Department will host a Light of Hope event on April 25 at Lakeside Park in observance of Crime Victim’s Rights Week.

 Crime Prevention Officer Michelle Arias and Detective Chad Berger attended the monthly Duncanville Area Retired School Employee (DARES) meeting. They provided updates on current crime patterns and fraud schemes targeting retired individuals.

Crime Prevention Officer Michelle Arias attended a crime watch meeting at Trinity United Methodist Church, where she spoke to the congregation about church and home safety tips.

PARKS AND RECREATION

Parks
  • Splashpad operations continue.
  • Crews completed biweekly backwash of the fill tank.
  • Crews upgraded and repaired irrigation systems in bed medians, Lakeside Park, Harrington Park, and the Athletic Complex. 
  • Seasonal Bed Maintenance and planting of petunias, begonias, and pentas occurred at Waterview, Pyburn, Memorial, Recreation Center, Library Courtyard, Harrington Park, and various medians. 
  • Crews conducted weekly field maintenance.
  • Harrington Park and Fire Station 1 have been spread with seasonal ryegrass. 

Duncanville Fieldhouse

The 2024 B.O.S.S. Summer Camp registration begins on April 15.

Activities include field trips, dance, cooking, football, basketball, volleyball, gym games, table games, cheer, arts and crafts, and tumbling.

Duncanville 300 Jr. Grand Prix

Duncanville 300 Jr. Grand Prix – Saturday, April 20, 2024 | 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM

The Duncanville 300 Jr. Grand Prix is back! Join us for a fun event at the Duncanville Recreation Center on Saturday, April 20. We have just over 10 Big Wheel tricycles for races that will take place upstairs on the walking track. In addition, we will build a mini track for the tikes on the West court in the gym. Lastly, we will have obstacle courses, prizes, popcorn, candy, and water for spectators. Admission is FREE. Contact the Recreation Center at (972) 780-5070 for more information.

Concert in the Park feat. Hazard County

Concert in the Park feat. Hazard County – Saturday, April 27, 2024 | 7:00 PM

Join us on Saturday, April 27, at the Poe-Hobden Amphitheater at Armstrong Park for a Concert in the Park feat. Hazard County. This band has opened for big-name groups at Billy Bobs, such as Travis Tritt, Kameron Marlowe, Shenandoah, and Jake Worthington. Spectators can sing along to country favorites and dance the night away. Admission is FREE. The concert will begin at 7:00 PM. Don’t forget to bring your blanket or lawn chair. PUBLIC WORKS

Street Division

  • Crews removed debris from right-of-way on Highgate Dr.
  • Level-up hot mix patches on E. Wheatland Rd. between Cockrell Hill Rd. to US Highway 67 are completed.
  • Crews constructed an ADA ramp on N. Alexander Ave.
  • Crews repaired nine potholes on E. Camp Wisdom Rd. and E. Redbird Ln.
  • The utility cut on Katherine Ct. has been repaired.

Capital Improvement Program (CIP) Construction

Fire Station 271

  • Core Construction is continuing to complete punch list items.

Cherry Alley Phase 1

  • The final inspection has been conducted, and no punch items will be addressed.
  • The City awaits the contractor’s final invoice.

E. Danieldale Rd. Reconstruction and Utility Improvements Project

  • Hydro mulch spraying is complete.

Ten Mile Creek Embankment and Drainage Improvements

  • The Contractor has received the RCP pipe delivery for the storm inlet.
  • The diagonal anchors delivery is delayed.

Other Construction

  • Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) I-20 Construction Cockrell Hill Rd. to Hampton Rd. TxDOT is constructing new service roads and ramps from Cockrell Hill Rd. in Duncanville to Hampton Rd. in Dallas, including new bridges across US-67. This project also includes construction by TXDOT of a Texas U-Turn at US 67 and Cockrell Hill Rd. on the southwest side of the bridge, which is projected to be completed by Fall 2024, barring any unforeseen conditions. The entire project has an estimated completion date of September 2025. 
 NEIGHBORHOOD SERVICES

Neighborhood Services Completed 6 Abatements at the following locations:

  • Blueridge Dr.
  • Camp Wisdom Rd.
  • Danieldale Rd.
  • Deer Ridge Dr.
  • Freeman St.
  • Lansdale Dr.
 BUILDING INSPECTIONS
  • A total of 1,970 single-family rental properties have been registered to date, with zero new properties registered since the last update. Fourteen inspections have been completed since the previous update; twelve passed, two failed, and zero were canceled. The primary reasons for the failed inspections were the absence of GFCI protection and missing carbon monoxide and smoke detectors.
  • Since the Single-Family Rental Registration Program inspections in April 2024, 139 Certificates of Occupancy have been re-issued.
  • This week, 97 Building inspections and 19 health Inspections were conducted. The total amount of fees collected was $24,296.22.
  • This week, 66 permits were issued.
