•  T-2 Consulting conducted on-site discussions with the firefighters that will assist with the search for the new Fire Chief.

• Regional Emergency Management Operations Coordinator Lauren Sanchez participated in the Dallas County Public Health Points of Dispensing (POD) Tabletop Exercise on April 18; discussed emergency preparedness via DeSoto Facebook Live on April 18; met with SWRCC to learn how to add Tier II reports to Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) for responders on April 22; participated in a meeting with Cedar Hill on special event emergency plan;  presented on emergency preparedness to the DeSoto Lions Club on April 23; completed the Duncanville EOC Technology Guide on April 25; and presented to the DeSoto CFA class on City Emergency Management on.

• Lacey Freeman continues to prepare for the grand opening of the new Fire Station, which will be held on May 3, 2024. 

Firefighter/Paramedic Tom Campbell was recognized for 15 years of service.

Executive Assistant Lacey Freeman was recognized for ten years of service.

Interim Police Chief Matt Stogner and several department members participated in Coffee with a Cop at Chick-fil-A.

• Crews responded to a ‘Code Brown’ at the Splash Pad – the Splashpad has been back-washed, and the entire system cleaned. 
  
• Bed maintenance and irrigation repairs have been conducted at various medians at Armstrong Berm Beds, Library, Fire Stations, and Police/City Hall. 
  
• Lakeside Park flower beds, the pavilion, and the pond have been prepped for the upcoming Water Lantern Ceremony hosted by the Duncanville Police Department.
  
• Approximately 4,500 tulip bulbs were available at the Easter Extravaganza, Operation Clean Duncanville events, and the Duncanville Recreation Center.
  
• Crews removed the fallen tree at Lions Park.

The 2024 B.O.S.S. Summer Camp registration begins on April 15.

Activities include field trips, dance, cooking, football, basketball, volleyball, gym games, table games, cheer, arts and crafts, and tumbling.

Recreation Center            

Duncanville 300 Jr. Grand Prix Recap – Approximately fifty participants joined us for the return of the Duncanville 300 Jr. Grand Prix. Participants enjoyed a friendly race, received goodie bags and an obstacle course, and had the opportunity to paint their wooden cars. Water and popcorn were also provided to attendees. Three trophies were presented to the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place participants (ages 8 to 12). We presented the younger tricycle riders with medals for the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners. In addition, we had a pinata for kids to hit and pick up candy that dropped. Races took place upstairs on the walking track and downstairs in the gym. Lastly, the adult trikes were a hit with the teens and adults. Mayor Barry L. Gordon and Councilmember Jeremy Koontz competed with one another for bragging rights.

Concert in the Park feat. Hazard County – Saturday, April 27, 2024 | 7:00 PM

Join us on Saturday, April 27, at the Poe-Hobden Amphitheater at Armstrong Park for a Concert in the Park feat. Hazard County. This band has opened for big-name groups at Billy Bobs, such as Travis Tritt, Kameron Marlowe, Shenandoah, and Jake Worthington. Spectators can sing along to country favorites and dance the night away. Admission is FREE. The concert will begin at 7:00 PM. Don’t forget to bring your blanket or lawn chair. • Stoic has started the gabion wall installation at Site 3b.
  
• Diagonal rock anchors were delivered, and drilling for the anchors has begun at Site 3b.

Wren Ave. and Oriole Blvd. Water Main Replacement I-20 Aerial Crossing 

• Crews completed pressure testing on Wednesday, April 24, on the north and south sides of I-20. 

Softwood Dr. Sanitary Sewer Aerial Crossing Repair

• Crews are installing the sewer main from Creekhaven Dr. and Softwood Dr. east to the new manhole for the aerial crossing. 
  Other Construction

Other Construction

• Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) I-20 Construction Cockrell Hill Rd. to Hampton Rd. TxDOT I-20 Construction Cockrell Hill Rd. to Hampton Rd. TxDOT is constructing new service roads and ramps from Cockrell Hill Rd. in Duncanville to Hampton Rd. in Dallas, including new bridges across US-67. This project also includes construction by TXDOT of a Texas U-Turn at US 67 and Cockrell Hill Rd. on the southwest side of the bridge, which is projected to be completed by Fall 2024, barring any unforeseen conditions. The entire project has an estimated completion date of September 2025.

• A total of 1,971 single-family rental properties have been registered to date, with one new property registered since the last update. Eight inspections have been completed since the previous update; six passed, two failed, and zero were canceled. The primary reasons for the failed inspections were the absence of Grounded/Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI) protection and missing carbon monoxide and smoke detectors.
  
• Since the Single-Family Rental Registration Program inspections in April 2024, 145 Certificates of Occupancy have been re-issued.
  
• This week, 111 Building inspections and 12 health Inspections were conducted. The total amount of fees collected was $36,343.80.
  
• This week, 73 permits were issued.
