The Police Department welcomes the public to access www.crimemapping.com for resources; citizens can also sign up for crime alerts within their location's radius.

• The Duncanville Police Department honored the families of Sergeant Michael Poe and Officer Roger Hobden during the annual Police Memorial event, which was held at the Poe-Hobden Amphitheater at Armstrong Park. 
  
• Southwest Regional Communications Center (SWRCC) Dispatchers stopped by to drop off goodies for National Police Week. 
  
• As continued evidence of our excellent working relationship with the Duncanville ISD Police Department, DISD Chief Mitchell Lambert stopped by to share some time and cookies with Interim Chief Matt Stogner and Sergeant Ron McCarty. We are grateful for their continued support and partnership.

Accounting & Reporting – Week of May 3 – May 15: 

• Electronic Funds Transfer Payments: 24 invoices were processed, totaling $496,417.09.

Parks

• Crews continue landscape maintenance at Duncanville Fieldhouse.
  
• Completed landscape maintenance at James Collins Blvd., Recreation Center, Library, Armstrong Park, and various median beds.
  
• Crews performed weed control at various beds at the Fieldhouse, Recreation Center, Library, James Collins Blvd., City Hall, and the Police Station.
  
• A new tree was planted at the City Hall parking lot and Chris Paris Park.
  
• Crews performed various tree maintenance at 1 N. Merrill Rd., and Duncanville Fieldhouse.
  
• Various park maintenance and vandalism repairs were conducted at Lions Park, Pyburn Park, and various median beds.
  
• Crews began backflow device collaboration for inspections and repair.
  
• The irrigation system at the City Hall parking lot has been repaired.
  
• I-20 irrigation systems were inspected to prepare for repairs.
  
• Crews performed various athletic field maintenance.
  
• Crews aerated soccer fields at Harrington Park.
  
• New field lines were painted for Track Associations to practice at Harrington Park.
  
• Crews mowed and lined various soccer fields in preparation for games at Harrington Park.
  
• Hosted the UTA Certified Flagger Course.
  
• The Keep Duncanville Beautiful Board will host the Keep Texas Waterways Clean Community Cleanup event on Saturday, June 1, at the Charles F. Ladd Nature Preserve from 9:00 AM – 11:00 AM.

Special Projects:

• Crews energized the Danieldale Rd. and 67 entryway signage.
  
• Harrington Park/Cockrell Hill Road entryway gate has been repaired.
  
• Crews repaired the chemical shed electrical box.
  
• Stump removal has been conducted throughout the City; the Smith Lawn and Tree Service contractor provided services.
  
• Mowing has been conducted throughout the City; services were provided by Good Earth Landscape Contractor mowing properties.
  
• Crews participated in the preparation for the Duncanville Police Department Memorial Service. 

Duncanville Fieldhouse

The 2024 B.O.S.S. Summer Camp registration begins on April 15.

Activities include field trips, dance, cooking, football, basketball, volleyball, gym games, table games, cheer, arts and crafts, and tumbling.

D.L. Hopkins Jr. Senior Center

Senior Meal Program Update: Effective Monday through Thursday, everyone who dines with us will receive a breakfast bag and a boxed lunch to take home. On Fridays, each person will receive two breakfast bags and two boxed lunches to enjoy on Saturday and Sunday. This is due to additional state funding received by the Dallas Area.

Dallas Area Agency on Aging (DAAA) funding and the expanded meal program will continue through the end of the fiscal year, September 30, 2024, at no additional cost to the City.

PUBLIC WORKS

Street Division

• Crews flushed culverts on Blossom Dr. to restore normal drainage flow.
  
• Crews repaired utility cuts on Softwood Dr., Ridge Rock Ln., and Coventry Ln.
  
• An ADA (The Americans with Disabilities Act) ramp was constructed, and an asphalt tie-in was completed on N. Alexander Ave.
  
• Crews marked four utility drainage locates at various locations throughout the City.
  
• Seven headwalls were cleaned on Green Tree Ln., Cedar Hill Rd., Green Way Dr., and Wheatland Rd.
  
• Crews repaired nine potholes on Forest Ln. and N. Merrill Ave.

Capital Improvement Program (CIP) Construction

Danieldale Rd. Reconstruction Project

• The project is nearing completion with four landscaping items remaining. City staff is working with the contractor, Pavecon, to complete them. 
  
• The City monument has been energized and operates on a solar timer.

Oriole Sidewalk Improvements

• City Council awarded the contract for sidewalk improvements throughout the Oriole Blvd. corridor between E. Camp Wisdom Rd. to E. Fairmeadows Dr. to Meca Construction LLC on April 16, 2024. Staff held the preconstruction meeting with the contractor on Friday, May 3. The project commenced on May 13 on Oriole Blvd. at E. Fairmeadows Dr.

Ten Mile Creek Embankment and Drainage Improvements

• The recent storm system has slowed project production.
  
• Stoic Construction has nearly completed site 4, and the storm drainpipe and boxes are completed. The backfill around the pipe and boxes are complete, leaving the final grade and restoration to be done.
  
• Site 3B is complete, while site 3A is nearing completion.

Other Construction

• Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) I-20 Construction Cockrell Hill Rd. to Hampton Rd. TxDOT is constructing new service roads and ramps from Cockrell Hill Rd. in Duncanville to Hampton Rd. in Dallas, including new bridges across US-67. This project also includes construction by TXDOT of a Texas U-Turn at US 67 and Cockrell Hill Rd. on the southwest side of the bridge, which is projected to be completed by Fall 2024, barring any unforeseen conditions. The entire project has an estimated completion date of September 2025.

• A total of 1,971 single-family rental properties have been registered to date, with zero new properties registered since the last update. Four inspections have been completed since the previous update; three passed, one failed, and zero were canceled. The primary reason for the failed inspections was the absence of a Grounded/Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI) protection and missing carbon monoxide and smoke detectors.
  
• Since the Single-Family Rental Registration Program inspections in May 2024, 164 Certificates of Occupancy have been re-issued.
  
• This week, 91 Building inspections and 12 Health Inspections were conducted. The total amount of fees collected was $23,575.00.
  
• This week, 67 permits were issued.
